My career evolution to author, speaker and consultant began in a unique way, by resigning from a sales job in Charlotte, NC that would have paid me over $100,000 while typically working less than 40 hours per week. I resigned due to lack of inspiration.
Upon leaving my dream job, I cashed in my savings to travel the country interviewing people from all walks of life about how they found passion in their careers (www.iamontheroad.com). During the course of more than 60,000 miles and 135 interviews, my experiences On the Road changed my life and became my first book; “84,000 Hours at Work” (www.84000hours.com).
My interviewees showed me the incredible power of people passionate about who they are, what they do, and where they work. I learned if you love what you do and who you do it for, you will work harder, smarter, and more creatively, leading to amazing results.
Sadly, many companies don't seem to grasp their people potential. The abysmal engagement levels of American workers can attest to that. My mission is to pass on my interview advice and help companies provide a motivating workplace, which in turn helps people enjoy their job. This is the best of both worlds. As I said on the main page:
Passionate Employees = Passionate Customers = Increased Profits
My next book, “The Road to a Passionate Workforce: How to harness the power of your people,” is fueled by that equation. The advice and lessons in this book don't come from thoughts behind a desk, but from my firsthand, real world experiences learning from a diverse group of passionate organizations. The ideal audience for my message and this book are business owners, executives and managers.
My career journey and interview experiences have me as passionate as I've ever been. My desire for others to share in that passion is why I love helping organizations tap into their people and get them to perform to their potential. And in a recent development, I've been asked to become an adjunct professor at St. John Fisher College, a four year school in
Rochester, NY.
The Road to a Passionate Workforce has many forks, but with Andrew Harrison as your guide, it will be much easier to navigate.
